In May of 2019, I was so incredibly fortunate enough to travel to the south of France for the 72nd annual Cannes Film Festival!

For the course assignments, we submitted movie reviews during the festival itself, and afterward we worked on learning more about international distribution of films. My partner and I pitched a feature length film along with a distribution plan at the end of the course.

The Course and Course Objectives
Students will receive six hours of elective credit during the Cannes Film Festival Study Abroad program.
The first course is “JOUR 5590/7590- Critical Writing and Reviewing.” This course focuses on the art of critiquing and reviewing live events, movies and television, while incorporating knowledge of culture, international occurrences and time periods. No pre-req required.
The second course is “EMST4040/6040 – International Film Industry Studies.” For this course, students will research film marketing and the reception of films in various countries, with a focus on the films featured at Cannes. No pre-reqs are required.
